Tonight is the Harvest Moon, the most famous moon of the year. Popular with farmers and featured in a Neil Young song, the Harvest Moon falls closest to the Autumn Equinox. It is seen as an omen of winter and provides extra light for farmers who harvest their crops late into the night.
Like farmers and their crops, this is the time for harvesting your accomplishments. If all of your plans have come to fruition, you are now reaping their benefits. Give thanks for all the blessings you’ve received this year.
If you haven’t accomplished your goals, you will have nothing to show for it now. Do not despair. The Harvest Moon will help you to let go of the past and embrace the New Year, arriving with Samhain in less than two months time. A failed harvest, whether physical or spiritual helps you to learn. Like the Ancient Celts, a sacrifice needs to be made in order to move forward into a fertile year. Sacrifice whatever is holding you back from achieving your goals. This might be your self-doubt or lack of motivation. You may have to cut ties with a negative person in your life. Free yourself from whatever has taken you away from your goal and embrace a more prosperous future.
This can be done by writing your failings on pieces of paper and burning them in the flame of a white candle.
