Tarot Reading: Queen of Hearts

I asked the cards to give my readers a message. This is your message for today:

The Queen of Hearts is the card of sensitives, psychics, Pisceans and empaths. The Queen cards in tarot represent introspection. They often describe the personality of the person being read. The Queen of Hearts (or Queen of Cups in the Rider-Waite deck) indicates an emotional, intuitive, and sympathetic person. She soothes and calms everyone around her. She is guided by her feelings and follows her heart. She trusts the messages of intuition, the divine feminine and the universe. This card asks you to get in touch with these aspects of yourself. Be kind and compassionate towards others. Listen to your inner voice. Marvel at the pain and beauty in the world and know that it’s akin to the pain and beauty inside each of us.

Practice while waiting in line at the grocery store, sandwiched between a screaming baby-monster and the dude in front of you with a cart full of fish sticks…

Mercury Retrograde

Mercury Retrograde is upon us once more!

Mercury went rogue on July 14th and will stay that way until August 8th. Don’t worry about it too much. Make sure you check your natal chart. Mercury was in retrograde when I was born so I’m not bothered by it, the same might be true for you.

What is Mercury Retrograde?

Mercury Retrograde happens three or four times every year. It occurs when Mercury slows its orbit and appears to stop and go backwards in the sky. It does, in fact, continue to go forward; the backwards orbit is just an optical illusion. We on Earth perceive this optical illusion as Mercury going backwards, against the natural order of the universe.

Weird right? It must have looked freaking apocalyptic to ancient astronomers and astrologers.

All the planets retrograde, but Mercury’s proximity to the Earth means that its affects are very apparent.

What Does it All Mean?

In Astrology, Mercury rules communication, travel, technology and the human mind.

In Roman mythology, Mercury was the messenger of the gods.

Mercury rules the signs Gemini and Virgo, attributing to their anal retentive neat-freakery.

Basically, when Mercury goes retrograde, or appears backwards, its traditional attributes are backwards as well. This means that travel, communication and technological devices (ruled by Mercury) go completely haywire. It also means that your mind can play tricks on you, causing confusion and emotional turmoil. This ridiculousness can present its self in a variety of ways:

Examples

The hotel/restaurant/airline looses your reservation.

You’re pissed because you misunderstood the tone of an email/text/letter and think someone is being an asshole.

Your computer blows up.

You drop your phone in a piping hot cup of coffee.

Writer’s block.

You think your partner said, “your fat.” They actually said, “the cat.”

Your mail/luggage/Amazon.com order mysteriously disappears somewhere between the post office and your front door.

The phone/internet/television cease to work.

You constantly mishear sentences in conversations or lines of dialogue on television shows.

It seems like you have to re-read every sentence of a book or blog post.

You hit a traffic jam EVERY SINGLE TIME you leave the house.

You’re constantly late for appointments and events.

Your cat runs off with your earbuds… ahem… Mortimer…

Who Does Mercury Retrograde Affect?

The character of a retrograde is coloured by the sun sign it falls under. The current retrograde is in Cancer-Leo, meaning that Cancer and Leo people may feel particularly affected. It also means that people with Cancer or Leo characteristics will be affected, regardless of their sun sign. It also means that parts of your life that are ruled or associated with Cancer or Leo could be affected.

Cancer rules the emotional and home aspects of life. You could find yourself being overly emotional, regardless of your astrological sign. Also, try to avoid home renovations or signing a lease or mortgage until the sun moves to Leo on July 23rd or until Mercury retrograde ends on August 8th.

Leo is a sign related to courage and strength. You could find that you feel weak, tired or scared once the sun moves into Leo. While the Mercury retrograde is in Leo, avoid situation which require courage… things like asking out your crush, demanding a promotion or job interviews. If that is not possible, simply be aware that your fear is enhanced because of Mercury retrograde and not because you are unworthy of success.

Geminis and Virgos are ruled by Mercury, meaning that they may be more or less affected depending on their birth chart.

Anyone born during one of Mercury’s retrogrades will not be affected as much, if at all.

Anyone who works in travel or technology should be careful.

Writers, teachers, PR executives and other people who’s jobs center on communication, should be cautious.

How to Survive

Leave 15 minutes early.

Avoid making any serious plans (weddings, vacations, book launches.)

Re-read every email and text before you send it.

Repeat after me: no coffee near the computer!

Double check reservations at least one week before the event.

Stop reading into things. Take people’s words at face value.

Expect delays, mix ups and general bullshittery. Do not get mad. That’ll only make it worse.

Write everything down. Your memory is the enemy.

Repeat after me: road rage is bad.

DO NOT sign contracts, purchase houses or make big life decisions about moving to Hawaii

Embrace the RE in Retrograde!

Mercury Retrograde favours all things “re,” as in re-visit, re-pair and re-do.

Re-tile the bathroom.

Re-write your article.

Re-decorate your living room.

Re-read your favourite book.

Happy Friday the 13th

via weheartit.com

Today is the third of three Friday the 13th’s happening this year. *Thunder* *Lightning*

In honor of this not-so-auspicious day, here are 13 ideas for your Friday the 13th itinerary:

1. Watch all of the Friday the 13th movies, except for Jason X because it takes place in outer space (and you know how I feel about movies that take place in outer space)

2. Buy a baker’s dozen of something. I’d go with cupcakes, you might choose steaks.

3. Have a party with 13 guests. Light some candles and get out the Ouija board.

4. Wear a costume, buy candy, decorate your house all creepy-like. I love Halloween and isn’t Friday the 13th close enough?

5. Send someone 13 flowers, especially if they’re superstitious. Nothing says “You must die” like a bouquet of anonymous flowers delivered on a day made for serial killers.

6. Pet black cats, walk under ladders and step on cracks. Just to see. It’s like a science experiment… with your life.

7. Give thirteen dollars to a charity. I suggest any charity that looks after kitties or narwhals. Or an alpaca sanctuary. Here’s an article I wrote for eHow.com about reputable animal charities.

8. Get a tattoo. Lots of tattoo parlours offer cheap “13″ tattoos on Friday the 13th, so roll up your sleeve and get in line.

9. Do something healthy, like 13 yoga poses or 13 minutes of meditation.

10. Un-do your bad luck. If you’re having a bad day, try doing 13 things to counteract it: look for a 4-leaf clover, pick up pennies, hang up a horseshoe, etc.

11. Drink 13 glasses of wine.

12. Drink 13 shots of tequila (DON’T)

13. Compile a Friday the 13th playlist with 13 songs to bring you luck OR 13 creepy, dark songs. I recommend Marilyn Manson. Or if you REALLY want to scare yourself, Shania Twain *thunder* *lightning*

Happy Haunting…

Tarot Reading: Death

I asked the cards to give my readers a message. This is your message for today:

The Death card is one of my favourite cards in the tarot deck. It has little to do with physical death or even misfortune. The Death card symbolizes an ending, transition or epic force in the universe. When this card comes up in a reading, be prepared for your life to be completely altered. This is the end of an era. It is time to close the door and walk away. You may need to seriously re-think your life. It is time to cut away people, experiences and belongings that no longer serve you so that you can be reborn into a new destiny. It may be scary, but change is inevitable. It is only when we avoid change, desperately clinging to old habits, that it hurts us. If you do not transform your life, a greater force will do it for you. Think of it this way: every seven years all the cells in your body completely regenerate, which means you are, essentially, a different person now than you were seven years ago. In seven years time you will, again, be completely different. Nothing is permanent but everything is eternal, moving in an everlasting cycle of death and rebirth. The seasons, the tides, the planets and you.

Think about it and get back to me…

Tarot Reading: The Empress

I asked the cards to give my readers a message. This is your message for today:

The Empress, the third card of the Major Arcana, represents creativity, motherhood and abundance. You are surrounded by energies favouring new ideas and creative pursuits.  There is potential for success and monetary abundance. You may be fertile with ideas or something new may be on the verge of “being born.” It is essential for you to nurture your ideas and creativity while keeping your feet firmly planted on the earth. The message of this card is that big dreams will provide huge rewards, but only if you stay grounded and maintain a generous spirit.

          Have a creative day!

Tarot Reading: Three of Swords

I asked the cards to give my readers a message. This is your message for today:

The Sword suit is often misunderstood, due to its negative reputation.  Many Sword cards indicate strife or hardship and the Three of Swords is no different. Remember that no cards are all bad or all good, but this one often indicates the struggle that is required before the end result. Also, the Three of Swords represents heartbreak, emotional pain and loneliness. It can mean sudden pain resulting from a betrayal or rejection. This card serves as a warning: something is wrong. Examine your life and listen to your inner voice. If you’ve been hurt by someone, try to forgive them. If you’ve hurt someone, forgive yourself.

And with that in mind, have a beautiful evening!

Tarot Reading: The Sun

I asked the cards to give my readers a message. This is your message for today:

The Sun is one of the most auspicious cards of the tarot deck. The Major Arcana (cards 0-21) depicts the journey of The Fool (card 0) as he progresses through life and eventually reaches enlightenment, represented by The World (card 21.) This journey is symbolic of the path each of us takes through life. The Sun is an important milestone on this journey. It depicts the moment that each of us awakens to our life’s purpose and commits to pursuing a meaningful existence. The Sun asks you to let your light shine. It predicts success and vitality, but only if you commit to your purpose on the planet. The time has come to forgive yourself, trust your instincts and accept your destiny. Great fame and fortune befalls those who courageously pursue their dreams, but that is nothing compared to the inner joy of knowing you are living to your full potential. You can have it all.

Have an AMAZING day!
